We arrived at the Wicked Weekend for our first 1/8 scale event. Casey Wilson Racing supplied Zack with a RC8 E buggy and a Losi 3.0 Nitro Car with a REDS Racing engine. We installed receivers and hit the track to practice all day Friday.
Saturday was qualifying. Electric went flawless, with a 12, 7, 3, 3 Zack qualified 5th in the A Main. Nitro on the other hand was a struggle, I was in charge of glueing tires and Zack’s first run ended when a couple tires flung off the rims….enough said…but the resort would put him in the lowest qualifier for the remainder of the 3 rounds left.
Sunday, mains day. Zack won the D Main and lapped the field twice, then won the C Main. The B main was an intense 20 minutes, and Zack managed to get into the final bump position. Zack started the A Main in 15th, and soon moved into the top 3, leading for a couple minutes also. After the 30 minutes was complete, Zack finished 3rd. Not a bad day at all!!!!
The electric triple A Mains were a battle, and Zack ended up with a 5, a 6, and an 8.
We met a bunch of great people and had an absolute blast all weekend.
With the first round of the Supercup only 6 days away and Florida experiencing heavy amounts of non-stop rain storms, the race directors decided to move the race indoors to SCRC. Most racers traveling to the race were now concerned that this layout, being the same layout the local racers have been running for months now, would give them a pretty big advantage.
Zack arrived Friday afternoon for practice and dialed in is car as best as possible. He had me send down more M3 ions with a local racer here that was leaving Saturday morning, since he decided this was the fastest tire for his 2wd buggy and the track conditions.
Saturday, in round one of mod buggy, Zack had a great run, placing him 4th overall for the round. The race had 200 entries, around 40 mod drivers and mod buggy was pretty stacked.
Top 5 round one:
Billy Easton, Jason Rouna, Paul Wynn, Zack Genova, JR Mitch
Zacks buggy, based on a B4.2 with a homemade chassis
Round 2 was a wash, as the car was hard to drive, later finding out that the motor plate had come loose. Putting him 9th overall he had to race the B main, in which he checked out for the win and the bump.
The main would see a buggy stuff a pipe and collect Zack, but he managed to battle back to mid pack, then another pile up would put him back to 8th.
Proline body wheels tires
Novak Pulse esc and ballistic motor
Airtronics radio and servo
Avid steering rack bearing hex adapters top shaft and slipper
MIP ball diff outdrives dog bones and CVDs
Stickit1Racing decals and radio wrap
LMR wing and wing wrap
What started off as a great day of racing ended after round one of qualifying when the skies opened up and drowned the track.
During round one, the track was just drying out from the previous nights rain, and traction was hard to find. Zack qualified second overall in Mod buggy in round one with is Proline, Novak, Airtronics, Avid, MIP, Stickit1 Racing and Kustomrcgraphics ride and was looking forward to the second run after figuring out his tire program.
Awards were decided on one round, and Zack got 2nd in Mod buggy and I got 1st in 40 plus 2wd buggy.
We didn’t have the results we were hoping for, but Zack and I had a blast attending a race we otherwise would not get to experience, but luckily it was moved to Florida. Just a couple pictures, as we were wrenching and testing, and I wasn’t able to take my normal amount of photos.
